Situated on the south east coast of the island, this lovely town has something for everyone! It is home to the longest stretch of beach on the island, extending six miles from the chalk headland of Culver Cliff in the north, to Dunnose Head in the south. This glorious expanse of sand provides excellent bathing, and facilities for all kinds of watersports.
Blackgang Chine is perfect for the young and young at heart, with attractions such as the Hall of Funny Mirrors, Giant Hedge Maze and a 100m fast boat slide. The Shanklin Chine is also well worth a visit, with its dramatic waterfalls and deeply shaded paths.
Boasting lovely coastal walks and spectacular scenery, Sandown is known as one of the sunniest places on the South coast, making it a perfect holiday destination for all.

Sandown Beach
Sandown Beach is one of the Isle of Wight’s finest and most recognised beaches, with miles of soft golden sands crowned by Sandown’s pleasure pier. Popular with tourists and surfers, Sandown is a traditional ‘bucket and spade’ holiday beach with all that you expect from an English family beach.

Sandown Pier is a fun, family-friendly attraction, featuring Lost World Indoor Golf, Ten-Pin Bowling and Magic Island Indoor Play for the little ones. There are also dodgems, a snake slide, ball walkers, quad bikes and tea cups. You can then relax with a refreshing drink at Scruffy Jack’s Sports Bar with stunning views of the bay.
Getting to the Isle of Wight
Ferries
There are several routes to choose from, depending on which route you take on the mainline, you can choose from vehicle ferries from Lymington to Yarmouth, Portsmouth to Fishbourne and Southampton to East Cowes. Dedicated foot passenger services run from Portsmouth to Ryde Pier Head, Southsea to Ryde and Southampton to Cowes.

Trains
There are excellent rail connections to all the major ferry ports, providing fast access to the Isle of Wight from across the UK. Travel time is less than two hours from London Waterloo.
Coaches
There are bus stations both at Portsmouth and Southampton which are just a short distance from the passenger ferries, allowing easy coach travel from any connecting destinations.
